Shock population figures
The article is based on a Federal Government report (1998). The
article is a little ambiguous as to where the data in the early
section of the article came from as further in the article it
mentions the ABS but not in the first data examples. (This could
be pointed out as a literacy issue for students when reading journalistic
reports.) Therefore these first figures may need to be taken with
a grain of salt. This article could also be linked with the SOSE
key learning area in relation to the impact of reduced migrant
intake, the lower fertility rate and the impact that these factors
would have on our society.
Some of the mathematical springboards that this article could
be used to explore include graphing, prediction, statistics and
percentages.
