Meat eating falls amid vitamin fear

This article talks of average meat consumption in Australia and in particular a fall of an average five kilograms in the past year. It could be used as an introduction to the arithmetic mean.

The presentation of masses of meat eaten and percentage change allows for calculations to check the figures. For example students could check the 17% fall from 1990-91 as a calculator activity. Using the 6.4% fall in the previous year to 69.7kg, a check of the 5kg difference can be made (it looks like maybe 4.8 was rounded to 5) and other kilogram values for beef, pig meat and poultry for 1994-95 calculated.
