Aussies on health kick
This article is presented to contrast with one which appeared four days later [Australian fatties hit new heights] offering a very different perspective on Australians' health. The two articles should be discussed together and would be relevant to Health and Physical Education classes as well as Mathematics classes.
In this article many general statements are made which are the results of surveying people's opinions rather than measuring their weights or other physical characteristics. What difference could this make to the conclusions drawn?
Another point for discussion is how the two reports could both be adequate representations of Australians' health. A discussion of the questions asked and the sampling techniques used would be appropriate.
