Women 'should get preferential entrance to uni'
This report illustrates an important feature of statistical inference: how it may be used after the formal statistics are calculated. The proposed action suggested here is highly controversial. It is likely that a case could be made for another form of action using the same statistics. An article such as this may be the source of a class debate where each side argues from the same data set. Some would argue we are moving out of mathematics here, and while there are definitely cross-curricular links, mathematics teachers cannot completely ignore outcomes which seek to apply the statistics they teach.
