In this case, the correlation is very strong (.985) and the downward trend is clear in the negative slope in the equation,
y= - 4099.5 x + 387419.
Students might like to use figures from the other article and recalculate the correlation and the regression equation. There is a good opportunity for discussing the appropriateness of these statistical tools when the trend in the data begins to look non-linear.
