Runners carry baton 661km for charity

SOME very tired runners
finished the annual 48-
hour charity relay run in
Hobart yesterday with
sore legs but happy
smiles.

   Runners chalked up an
incredible 1654 spon-
sored laps, or more than
661km, and raised about
$8000 for the Tasmanian
division of the Heart
Foundation.

   Organiser Nigel Hyland
said it left the relay just
short of its $100,000
target over the past 12
years.

   "But it's a good effort
and we want to thank the
runners, helpers,
sponsors and the public
for a great effort," Mr
Hyland said.
