THE Taste of the Huon went down in true autumn style over the long weekend. While people slip, slop, slapped for a sun-smacking Sunday, some of the same and others had to bring out brollies and boots for a bitter Monday. About 12,500 people had attended the ninth Taste of the Huon at Geeveston's Heritage Park on Sunday, followed by 6000 yesterday. Taste food and wine consultant Liz McLeod said the event had been terrific. "It's wet, W-E-T," she said as she and other stallholders packed up early yesterday. "Sadly the weather has turned nasty but that hasn't wiped smiles off people's faces." The abrupt change in the weather was not expected by the organisers and the event didn't quite break last year's record attendance. Ms McLeod said people had been arriving as early as 9am yesterday to sample what the Huon Valley had to offer.
