THERE will be 11 million personal computers in Australia by 2001, new research predicts. Data compiled by the Australian Film Commission shows there were almost 6.8 million computers in 1998, a million more than the previous year. The study found 2.9 million Australian homes each had at least one computer, with 900,000 connected to the Internet and another 500,000 expected to access the Net within 12 months. And of the 3.9 million homes without a computer 400,000 expected to buy one within a year.
