AUSTRALIA experienced its fifth hottest year on record last year, with temperatures 0.46 degrees above average. But the National Climate Centre at the Bureau of Meteorology in Mel- bourne said the rise was not uniform over the country, as south- eastern Australia was cooler than normal for much of the year.
