New Town's stolen pride

THE Hobart suburb of
New Town is again listed
on Australia's top 10
places for burglaries.

The Brisbane suburb of
Annerley was the most
burgled suburb in Aust-
ralia in 1996 with almost
10.7 burglaries per 100
homes insured, a survey
by NZI Insurance re-
ports.

   New Town is ranked
No 10 in the survey,
released yesterday, with
8.5 burglaries per 100
homes insured.

   In 1995 New Town was
ranked 8th and Glen-
orchy 9th. Glenorchy was
not on the 1996 list.

   NZI assistant general
manager Mike Amphlett
said the relatively low
burglary rates in Sydney
and Melbourne were at
first unexpected, but had
been repeated in each
survey in the past few
years.
