CHINA'S luckiest digit, number eight, is spreading its fortune to Australia. Known as the Chinese symbol for wealth, number eight has appeared more than any other in Tattslotto. A Hong Kong motorist paid a world record $1 million for the right to have a single eight on his car's number plate in 1988. And if the number crunchers are right, the lucky eight should drop again soon because it has not been seen in a Tattslotto draw for 11 weeks. Number eight has fallen 124 times since Tattslotto started drawing from 45 numbers in 1985. Number 39 has been the unluckiest figure, appearing only 83 times. -WENDY BUSFIELD
